Low Waged and Mundane Pursuit in IT

Somebody had truly said-Money makes the world go around. Off late, I have been observing an increased trend in fresher's joining IT companies right after their degree courses. I don't blame the students for that. Certain highbrow words like Campus Recruitments, Money and Independence etc truly attract everyone. Sometimes, it is the Brand Name and most of the times, it is the financial grit. At a stage in life when we stand on our feet to be "independent", the IT companies make us go overboard with such delightful offers. Did I just say delightful? Well, mark my words; life doesn’t remain all that delightful once you are into an IT company with your B.Sc/BCA degree. It doesn’t take much time to realize the wrong step taken.
With my experience in this industry for almost 3 years now, I have learnt that an individual with a B.Sc/BCA degree has very less scope of growth. Though we work along with 'engineers' and do similar jobs, you still remain at a lower job band. The year end appraisals show not much difference with every year that pass by.

Basically, the IT companies make huge profits with your career at stake!

A vivid yet bitter, known niche of people held in this jeopardy is the ‘call centre’ professionals-

A group of overworked and stressed out men and women who work day and night servicing people around the globe, only to know that a few peanuts have been credited into their accounts at the end of the month. I have had friends who worked in call centres. I remember they’d quit their jobs in a couple of months when they soon realized that the job was not taking them anywhere along the career ladder and the financial climate always remained dull.
If I were to guide you on your career after a bachelor’s degree in science, I would sincerely advice/suggest you to complete your Masters before you get pulled into this industry. Alternatively, you can always choose to become an "Engineer", the tag always helps!

  1. You are right.. But I'd suggest that if you are at a dead end..U can either stop there ,sit and keep crying ..or u can start planning to dig in a tunnel to take u to a new wide world. The world is full of opportunities. A masters always helps better than bachelors.. But u can always do it side by side.. If u have the will!

  3. hai ashwini ur a good writter and superb post by u dnt u worry ..it was a gr8 message for the ppl who are doing their degree and it is true that BOTH engineer DEGREE holder and a BCA degree holder does the same work in the same office but an ENGINEER is prefered for a pramotion and BCA degree holder remains in the same stage...........

it is all based on the mind set of the ppl in our society where ppl give more respect for a engineer than a BCA or Bsc degree holder...

but soon we all are lead them .....
EVEN U..... all the best :)

  4. Hey Rohan well said!! :) Yeah Ash it may be a wrong step but rmbr haarke jeethne waalon ko hi baazigar kehthe hai!! :D bt neverthless this msg is a eye opener for the 'n' number of BSc/BCA graduates like us. Everything looks rosy from outside bt u get the real taste of it when u actually get in.... :( so "arm yourselves well before getting into the battle ground" is the mantra!!

  5. Ok Ash.... Lemme write something... Caution:"I am a bad writer".

I am in total agreement with whatever u said. Every fancy job looks Juicy when a student just graduates. U only realise after a while. So what u do when u realise?????? Higher studies is the best option....no doubt. U know what when u finish ur masters degree, U have work experience with u and that will help u bag a better pay that what u would have got without experience.

Having said that... I would like to stress the fact that "Make hay while the sun shines". Get back to education before u get back pains and stress realted other things.
